The Unconditional Love

This is part of my Forever Grateful project.
As I was selling my home and placing my business on hi
atus for a period of time, I took portraits of about 30 people who influenced my career over the past 12 years. This was my way of saying “Thanks” and letting everyone know that I couldn’t have done it without their support.

Mom,

Here’s a list of how you’ve supported my photography career:

  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Complimented every single photo I’ve ever taken
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Bought me a new computer when mine was toast and money was tight
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Liked every single photo I’ve posted on social media
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Bought me a Lensbaby Composer lens, which I wouldn’t have ever bought for myself because I didn’t see any practical uses for it in my business. I only wanted one to do some fun creative shots for myself. But that lens has been used to take some of my favorite photos at weddings and some of my portraits. It has been used to take photos of trees along my road trips. It was even used to take several photos in this series. (BiCoastal Broads, The Master Builder, The Editor in Chief, The Splash of Color).
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Supported my father in his endeavors as a photographer
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Watched my dog when I had to travel for a wedding
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Encouraged me to learn and grow
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Loved me unconditionally
  • Loved me unconditionally & continuously

You’re the epitome of unconditional love and I’m lucky and blessed to have you for a mother… I can be stubborn, short tempered, and lack patience, but you love me no matter what.

I’ll never be able to repay you for all that you have given me.

Forever grateful,

Blake

The Story Behind the Shoot:

My parents are traveling with me in the RV. They’ve talked about traveling in an RV for a while so this was sort of a gift to them.

At our first stop, we rented a pontoon boat on my mother’s birthday.

During our second stop, I was able to show my mother the Milky Way Galaxy during a meteor shower where she saw her first shooting star. The image below was one of the many meteors we say that night.

Then we watched a Super Moon rise over Monterey together.

We walked along the cliffs on the Mendocino coast overlooking the ocean.

And then we headed up to the Avenue of the Giants where I photographed her amongst the redwoods.

Being sure to take some photos of her with the Lensbaby Composer lens that she bought me many years ago.

I hope you are enjoying the sights and things we have seen together mom. I love you.
