In March of 2003, I bought a digital camera and took headshots of a couple actor friends. At the time, I thought I was just going to use the skills I picked up while growing up, with a professional photographer for a father, to bring in a few extra bucks. The business grew faster than I could have imagined. Within 9 months, I quit my full time job and moved into an artist loft in Hollywood. 3 years later I was voted Favorite Headshot Photographer in BackStage West’s Readers’ Choice Award… and again the following year! During this time my photography business expanded and I started shooting Celebrity Portraits and Weddings on a regular basis.
I never would’ve been able to do any of it without a wide array of supporters who placed their trust in me, advocated for me, worked with me, and who have continuously encouraged, inspired, and challenged me. My career was built upon a strong foundation of friends and colleagues who I am forever grateful for.
After 12 years of being in business, I decided to take an extended hiatus so I could take a step back and reassess what is important to me and what I would like my next 12 years to look like. I sold my house, bought an RV and am taking the next several months to travel and figure out what’s next.
As I prepared for my departure from L.A., I began a project where my goal was to take portraits of 30 people who have influenced me over the years. It was a chance to say “Thank you!” in person during our shoot, and then to scream “THANK YOU!” online and let the world know how much they mean to me.
When all was said and done, I took portraits of 34 People and 7 Dogs and wrote 29 Letters of Thanks.
I hope you enjoy the photos and stories.
